IMF TO ASSIST MOLDOVA IN RESCHEDULING OF FOREIGN DEBTS

Chisinau, March 28 /Moldpres/ - Representatives of the
International Monetary Fund promised to support the Chisinau
Cabinet for starting the procedure of rescheduling the Republic
of Moldova's debts to the other states through the agency of the
Paris Club and London Club.

Moldovan Deputy Premier Andrei Cucu made statements on the
matter within a Wednesday press conference, when referring to the
results of a working visit to the USA he had paid last week.
According to Andrei Cucu, the IMF accepted, in principle, to
assist Moldova in this difficult problem. The body suggested, for
the beginning, the initiation of bilateral negotiations with the
countries to which Moldova owes big debts - Russia, USA, Japan,
Turkey, Italy.

Andrei Cucu underscored that the problem of foreign debts is
one of the most painful for Moldova. In case a part of the debts
is not rescheduled, the Republic of Moldova in 2002 might face a
budget deficit worth over USD 100 million, and would run the risk
of being in a default.

While this year Moldova must pay just interests at the
foreign loans, which are worth USD 80 million, in 2002 the
country will have to return circa USD 175 million, without taking
into consideration the debts to the IMF serviced by the National
Bank. The total foreign debt of the Republic of Moldova currently
exceeds USD 760 million. The country has the biggest debts to
Russia, the IMF, the World Bank, the USA.

FMI VA AJUTA MOLDOVA LA RESTRUCTURAREA DATORIILOR EXTERNE

Chisinau, 28 martie /MOLDPRES/. Reprezentantii Fondului Monetar

Declaratii in acest sens a facut miercuri vicepremierul in
SUA.

Potrivit lui Andrei Cucu, FMI a acceptat, in principiu, sa acorde
tarii noastre ajutor in aceasta problema dificila, sugerand

In cazul

imprumuturile externe - peste 80 mln de dolari, apoi in 2002 va
trebui sa ramburseze circa 175 mln de dolari, fara a lua in
calcul datoriile fata de FMI deservite de Banca Nationala.
Datoria externa totala a Republicii Moldova depaseste la ora
actuala 760 mln de dolari SUA. Tara noastra are cele mai mari
datorii fata de Rusia, FMI, Banca Mondiala, SUA.
